조뱅이 Breea segeta

한밭수목원. 학명 Breea segeta ,영명 Creeping thistle, 한자어 자계채(刺薊菜), 야홍화(野紅花)

한방에서 엉겅퀴는 큰 가시가 있다고 대계(大薊 큰가시)라 하고 조뱅이는 조그만한 가시가 있다고 소계(小薊)라 한다.

소계를 우리말로 조방거새라 하다가 한자 음을 차용한 조방거새(曺方居塞)라고 하였다.

이후 음의 변화를 일으켜 조방거ㅅ.ㅣ>조방거싀>조방이>조뱅이로 변화하였다고 한다.

즉 조뱅이는 조그만한 가시를 가진 식물이라는 뜻에서 유래되었다(이우철의 '한국식물명의 유래' 참조). 방아실.

한번만이라도 너를 원없이 보았으면

한번만이라도 너를 원없이 안았으면

한번만이라도 너를 찾아 두리번거리지 않았으면

한번만이라도 너를 잊고 살았으면

 

다들 비슷비슷하다지만

무어 다를 게 있냐 하지만

비슷한 다른 것들은 여기저기 눈에 띄는데

내가 찾는 너는 보이지 않는다

 

한번 우연히 만나 자리

기억하고 다음에 찾아가면 사라지고 없다

종종종 발이 달렸는지

내가 찾아가면 너는 도망을 가나보다

 

얼굴빛 가슴 아려 차마 못 보는데

가슴은 여려서 남들처럼 날카로운 가시도 못 갖추고

부끄러움 많이 타서 키도 훤출하지 못하고

거침 세상에 가녀린 몸으로 어디 숨어 피는가

나를 닮은 조뱅이여
