미국풍나무 Liquidambar styraciflua 'Festival'

 

 묵은 가지에는 코르크성 날개가 생긴다.

 

 

 

 

미국풍나무 학명 Liquidambar styraciflua 'Festival'.  영명은 American sweet gum, red gum, 미국 동부 멕시코 원산. 키 20m. 원산지에서는 45m. 암수 한그루이며 꽃은 3~4월에 핀다. 잎은 대부분 5갈래로 갈라지는데 가끔 3갈래, 7갈래로 갈라지기도 한다. 가지에 화살나무처럼 코르크층이 발달되어 있는 것이 특징이다. 중부에서 미국풍나무를, 남부에서 대만풍나무를 식재한다. 종소명 styraciflua 는 수지가 흐르는 의 뜻이다. 단풍나무 계통은 단풍나무과인데 풍나무(캐나다풍나무, 미국풍나무, 대만풍나무 등) 는 알팅기아과(구 조록나무과)다.
