복자기나무 Three-flower maple

단풍이 좋기로는 단풍나무가 제일 아니겠는가.

복자기 역시 단풍나무과의 낙엽 교목으로 단풍이 아름답기로 둘째 가라면 서럽다.

수피에서 타닌을 채취하여 염색에 이용하였기에 색수(色樹)라고 했을 정도다.

나도박달이라고도 하는데 한자어로 우근자(牛筋子)이니 재질이 단단함을 알 수 있다.

수레의 차축(車軸)을 만드는 재료로 박달나무, 시무나무, 복자기 순이었다고 한다.

일본에서 귀신안약나무(鬼目藥木) 즉 안약나무(Acernicoense Maxim, 메구스리노키)와도 흡사하여 오해를 받기도 한다.

속명에 acer 이 들어가는데 라틴말로 단단하다는 뜻이다.

복자기는 우리말 냄새가 짙은데 어원을 알 수가 없다.

 

 

복자기나무 Three-flower maple. 무환자나무목 단풍나무과 단풍나무속의 소교목. 나도박달, 산참대. 학명 Acer triflorum Kom. 높이 10m. 잎은 마주나며, 3출겹잎,  꽃은 5-6월에 가지 끝에서 3개씩 달린다.  열매는 시과이다. 복장나무에 비해서 작은잎에 톱니가 없거나 2-3개 있고, 잎자루와 열매에 털이 있다.
