작두콩 chopper-bean. Sword bean. 콩과 해녀콩속의 일년초. 학명 Canavalia ensiformis DC. 고려시대엔 왕실에서만 약용이나 식료로 재배하던 왕실작물로 알려져 있습니다.  본초명은 도두(刀豆), 마도두(馬刀豆), 협검두(挾劍豆)이며 비염, 축농증, 치질, 편도선염, 중이염, 구내염 뭐 이런 곳에 좋은데다가 귀해서 그랬겠죠. 열매가 작두날 같죠? 꼬투리는 길이 20~30cm이니 콩 치고는 엄청 크기도 하구요.  그래서 작두콩이 되었나 봅니다. 아래는 네이버 지식백과에 나오는 작두랍니다. 시골에서 소 여물 썰 때 많이 보던 작두죠. 무당이 신들린 걸 증명할 때 타던 작두는 2번 형태를 가졌구요.
