갈풀 Phalaris arundinacea

갈풀 Reed canary-grass, canary-reed. 달, 학명 Phalaris arundinacea L. 벼목 화본과 갈풀속의 여러해살이풀. 줄기는 보통 1개가 나와 곧게 자라며 높이 50-120cm이다. 잎집에는 털이 없다. 잎몸은 길이 10-30cm, 폭 5-15cm이다. 꽃은 6-8월에 피며, 꽃차례는 원추꽃차례로 곧추서고 길이 8-15cm이다. 작은이삭은 난형으로 길이 4-5mm이며, 낱꽃 3개로 이루어지는데 이 중 1개만 양성화이다. 외영은 넓은 피침형으로 까락이 없다. 외견상 산조풀에 유사하나 잎이 분록색이고 소수 기부에 기모가 없다. 사료나 퇴비로 이용하며 먹기도 한다. 본초명 역초(鷊草)는 곽란, 당뇨, 이뇨, 중독, 지혈, 홍역에 사용한다.  유등천.
