미국풍楓나무 Sweet Gum

잎을 씹으면 껌 향기가 난다고 Sweet Gum. 실제 츄잉 검의 원료이다. 미국풍나무 Liquidambar styraciflua 'Pendula'. 미국 원산. 장미목 알팅기아과(구 조록나무과)의 낙엽교목. 높이 45m. 습기가 많은 지역에 잘 자란다. 잎은 단풍잎처럼 5∼7개로 갈라지고 가장자리에 톱니가 있다. 열매는 여러 개가 모여서 버즘나무 열매같이 둥글고 가시가 있다. 대만풍(L. formosana)의 열매는 미국풍과 비슷하지만 잎은 중국단풍처럼 잎이 세 갈래이므로 구분한다.
