설탕단풍 Sugar maple

 캐나다단풍나무를 설탕단풍나무 Sugar maple, Hard maple, Rock maple. 학명 Acer saccharum라 하는데 캐나다의 국기에 그려진 단풍나무이며 감기치료의 명약인 메이플시럽의 주원료이다. 북미 원산. 한국에서는 당량이 떨어져 경제성이 없다고 한다.  높이가 40m. 잎은 마주나기하고 가장자리는 결각상이거나 톱니가 드문드문 있고 간혹 밋밋하다.  꽃은 4-5월에 황록색으로 피고 꽃잎이 없다.  계족산에서. 

황톳길로 유명한 둘레길에 단풍나무와 애기단풍이 즐비한 가운데 유독 한 그루 캐나다단풍이 눈에 들어왔다.
