중국단풍나무 trident Maple. 무환자나무목 > 단풍나무과 > 단풍나무속의 낙엽 활엽 교목. 높이 15m. 잎은 마주나기하고 3개로 얕게 갈라진다.  꽃은 4월에 연한 노란색으로 개화하고 꽃잎은 5개로 연한 황색이다. 열매는 털이 없으며 분과이고 8월 중순 ~ 10월 중순에 성숙한다. 정원수, 가로수로 식재한다. 잎이 세갈래인 것은 대만풍나무도 그렇다. 미국풍나무는 다섯갈래로 갈라진다. 중국단풍은 늘 봐도 오리발 같아서 오리발단풍이 날 것 같다는 생각인데. 잎이 세 갈래라고 중국단풍을 삼각단풍이라 하면 당단풍은 왜 오각단풍이란 말이 없지?
