배나무 Pyrus pyrifolia

 

 

배나무 pear, pear tree, 이목(梨木), 장미과 배나무속의 교목성 낙엽과수. 학명 Pyrus pyrifolia. 잎은 어긋나고 달걀꼴이며 바늘 모양의 톱니가 있다. 4~5월에 하얀꽃이 피는데 꽃받침 조각과 꽃잎은 각각 5개씩인데 꽃받침 조각은 길게 뾰족하고 꽃잎은 달걀을 닮은 원형이다. 9월에 둥글고 커다란 황록색의 핵과가 다갈색으로 익는다. 생약명은 이과(李果)이며 주로 호흡기 질환을 다스린다.  이탈리아가 세계 최고의 배 생산국이며 중국·미국이 그뒤를 따른다.
