미국흰불나방 Hyphanria cunea. 이름에서 알 수 있듯이 북미 원산인데 수입 목재를 통해 유입된 것으로 추정하고 있다. 몸과 날개가 백색으로서 제1화기 성충만은 날개에 검은 점들이 있다. 더듬이는 암수가 모두 톱니 모양이지만 수컷에서는 깃털 모양으로 보인다. 애벌레는 활엽수의 잎맥만 남을 정도로 왕성한 식욕을 갖고 있다. 산수유나무의 잎이 그물처럼 해를 입고 있다. 독이 있는 흰털은 사람에게는 알레르기나 각막염은 물론 피부병을 일으키기도 한다. 천적으로는 기생파리, 고치벌, 좀벌, 맵시벌, 말벌 등이 있다. 도안동.
